Summary: Abandoned as a baby to a young wealthy couple and raised in a world of privilege, Arial has no hint of her past or who she belonged to. Her only link lies in the one thing that sets her apart from everyone else—telekinetic powers. Protected by her adoptive parents and hidden from the public to keep her gift secret, Ari is raised in the lap of luxury, and isolation. That is, until someone begins threatening her life.

Beau Devereaux is no stranger to the strange. As the head of Deveraux Security, he’s more than familiar with the realities of physic powers. So when a family friend approaches him about protecting his daughter, he’s more than ready to jump on board. What Beau isn’t prepared for is the extent of his attraction to his beautiful and powerful client. What began as a simple assignment, just another job, quickly turns personal as Beau discovers he’ll do anything at all to protect Ari. Even if it costs him his life.

Review: There's really only one way to describe Maya Banks: Amazing. She writes in so many different genre and churns out book after book and I end up enjoying every single one of them. Seriously. Every. Single. One. Her Slow Burn series has a little paranormal spin to them that definitely add to the intrigue and suspense of the novel!

Living a very sheltered and protected life, Arial has no idea that she was left on her parents' stoop as a baby with a note begging them love and care for her. Without hesitation, her parents took her in and showered her with love. When Ari started showing strange telekinetic powers as a baby, her parents went through great lengths to protect her secret. But when she's all grown up, someone has started to come after her, someone who knows about her abilities. When Ari's parents go missing, she hunts down the only people her father told her she could trust, the Devereaux brothers. Beau Devereaux is all business and puts the safety of his team before anyone else, but when Ari walks in bruised and afraid, his protective instincts kick to a level he's never experienced before. Beau finds himself taking on Ari's case without hesitation and doing anything and everything in his power to protect the innocent and incredible woman who's fallen into his life.

In the first book of the Slow Burn series, I loved the danger and suspense over who was mentally stalking Ramie. In this one, while I really enjoyed Ari's powers of telekinesis, I missed that constant danger and suspense. While this book had its moments, I felt like there was too much waiting around and talking and not enough action and danger that kept me on the edge of my seat. Aside from that, though, I absolutely loved Ari's character and how utterly selfless she was. She would put everyone else's life over her own, even when they were the ones who were risking their lives to save hers. I could totally see why Beau fell for her so quickly and I loved how their relationship progressed. They were so gosh darn adorable together and I loved how she broke down Beau's serious exterior and made him smile and laugh. Even amidst the danger and mystery over who had kidnapped her parents, Ari could find some solace in just being with Beau.

While I wish there was more action and less waiting around, I think Ari's paranormal powers definitely added more intrigue to the story. She stopped using her powers ever since she was little and tried to live a normal life, but now that her life is in danger, she has to try to use her powers again to protect herself and the ones she loves. You have no idea how powerful Ari really is and her sweet, loving personality definitely becomes much angrier as she faces those who try to hurt her family. That girl sure knows how to turn some rage on! It was great seeing her so powerful at points and not always the damsel in distress just because she has such a strong man to protect her.

In the end, the romance in this one was much better than the first novel, but it was lacking some of the suspense and danger I had enjoyed in Ramie's story. I ended up loving Ari's character, though, and how powerful she became as she gained more confidence with her powers. Beau was so adorable despite his serious personality and I enjoyed watching those two fall in love. If you're a paranormal fan who also loves some romance, you should definitely check out Maya's Slow Burn series!
